The safety net, in detail.
Every rental on Cache is backed by deposits, verified members, and a request-first flow. Here's exactly what that means - for renters and for owners.
How your deposit is handled
Your card is saved securely with Stripe. At pickup, Cache may place a temporary authorization for the deposit amount — that's not a completed charge, but it can reduce your available balance while it's active. It only becomes a real charge if a damage claim is filed and approved, and it's always capped at the listed deposit. Owners never handle your money directly. Full deposit policy →
Request first, pay after
Nothing is charged until the owner accepts your request. You're never paying a stranger and hoping - every rental is a two-sided yes before any money moves.
Verified members
Every member connects a verified payment identity through Stripe before they can rent or lend. Card details stay private, payouts land in the owner's bank automatically, and there are no anonymous accounts on either side of the handoff.
Photo-documented handoffs
Both sides photograph the gear at pickup and again at return, so every rental has a timestamped condition record. If a dispute ever comes up, nobody argues from memory.
If something breaks
Damage claims are filed with photos within 12 hours of return and are capped at the deposit on file. The renter can accept or contest; if contested, the claim returns to Cache for a decision and no funds move until it's resolved. Honest wear from normal use is never charged.
